After the Event

Allow the children time to celebrate and reflect on their achievements throughout the topic. They could create a display showing photographs of the Olympic and Paralympic.

During a special assembly you could hold a prize giving event. This event will award those pupils who have displayed the values of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (see the What are your Values section). Ask children to design appropriate medals or certificates to be presented to the winners at the event. Invite a local sporting role model to present the prizes.

Think about promoting your school Olympic and Paralympic Games by:

• creating reports in assembly and for the local media;
• putting images, podcasts and presentations on the school website; and
• creating display boards in school.

It is important to take time to evaluate the event with the children. Discuss what they really enjoyed doing, ask them what went well, whether they liked working in a team, and what would they change if they were to do it again.

As with the Olympic and Paralympic Games, taking advantage of the legacy of the school Olympic and Paralympic Games Event is vital. The enthusiasm generated in school could provide a springboard from which the children could become involved in a variety of sports outside of school. This can have remarkable benefits for the children in areas such as individual health, positive self-esteem and confidence and community involvement.
