CCEA Marks Official End of School Year

Justin Edwards, CCEA CEO said:

“The COVID-19 pandemic presented unique challenges never faced before in terms of providing fair and equitable results for examinations not taken. In a matter of weeks, alternative awarding arrangements were put in place and we are now working through that process to deliver GCSE, AS, A Level and Vocational results in August. None of this would be possible without the co-operation of many teachers across Northern Ireland who provided us with the essential data needed to allow us to calculate the final grades.”

“The end of the summer term, a term like no other, also coincided with a key achievement as the first set of results coming from the alternative awarding approach were published. Yesterday, 1470 Entry Level Qualifications were issued to 774 students from 64 schools and colleges across Northern Ireland. I congratulate all of the students on their hard work and wish them well as they progress on the next stage of their journey.”

“At CCEA, over the coming weeks we will continue our work in finalising the Summer 2020 grades for A levels, GCSE and Vocational qualifications.  Alongside this, we have also started planning for the delivery of qualifications in Autumn 2020 and 2021. Consultation and collaboration between all key stakeholders will be essential over the coming weeks and months to provide as much clarity and guidance as possible in an evolving health situation.”

Our young people are at the heart of everything we do and it is our goal that the grades they receive will enable them to progress confidently with their future plans.”
