Students Achieve Entry Level Qualifications in Extraordinary Times
Today, The Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) has published 1470 Entry Level Qualifications for a total of 774 students from 64 schools and colleges across Northern Ireland. This is the first set of results to be issued under the alternative awarding arrangements for 2020 and is a substantial achievement for young people, teachers, school leaders and the qualifications system. It marks the successful completion of another significant stage of this summer’s awarding process following the Minister of Education’s announcement on 19 March 2020 to close schools and colleges and to cancel examinations.
Entry Level Qualifications comprise over 150 units across 19 subjects such as mathematics, English and science as well as vocationally related and skills for life qualifications.
To calculate the results for Entry Level Qualifications, this summer CCEA asked schools and colleges to provide a centre assessment level for each student for each subject. Once submitted to CCEA the data went through a standardisation and moderation process in common with previous years.

“The last few months have been extremely challenging for everyone waiting for results. I would like to congratulate every student who has received the outcomes of their entry level qualifications today. The results you have achieved is recognition for all your hard work.
I would also thank the hundreds of teachers and lecturers who contributed considerable time and effort in submitting the centre assessment information to enable CCEA to calculate the final outcomes. Our aim was to enable learners to progress in their learning and students who have received results today can have confidence their qualifications have equal value to those who achieved such qualifications previously.”
