Period Dignity
Period dignity is about providing easy access to period products and removing any stigma and taboo around periods.
Education is key to promoting respect, understanding and open discussions about periods and breaking the stigma. Tackling period poverty and promoting period dignity helps learners reach their potential and supports confident attendance at school.
In this web area, you can find our learning resources on Period Dignity and Menstrual Wellbeing for primary, post-primary and SEN, as well as supporting short films, posters and information for schools.
Free Period Products
In December 2020, the Northern Ireland Executive agreed to fund a pilot scheme to provide free period products to all schools in Northern Ireland from September 2021. The successful pilot scheme closed in June 2024 to make way for wider provision under new legislation.
Under the Period Products (Free Provision) Act (Northern Ireland) 2022, period products are now available free of charge in school premises and EOTAS centres to those who need them. This includes pupils, staff and visitors.
See our Accessing Period Products page for more information.
