Lesson 2: Aims and ideals of the Rebels

The second lesson in the module will outline the aims and ideals of the rebels who took part in the Easter Rising. The lesson explores the views and ideology of revolutionary nationalists on the eve of the Rising. We will see how the various participants did not all share the same motivations for, or expectations of, revolution.
Lesson Intentions
- Understand the differing expectations and reservations of the three groups involved in the Rising; and
- Describe the key beliefs expressed by leaders Patrick Pearse and James Connolly.

Tasks
A number of tasks have been developed in order to help pupils progress in a number of desirable Using ICT skills and Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities. This lesson in particular helps develop their knowledge, understanding and skills by engaging the pupils in a number of active learning activities and digital tasks.
