Statistics for 2016–18 reveal that homelessness is increasing in Northern Ireland. Education plays a vital role in raising awareness and helping to prevent this social issue.

This post-primary resource provides lessons and activities to support you to teach pupils about the local and broader issues of homelessness in an age appropriate manner.

The overall aim of this resource is to give pupils:

• an understanding of the issue of homelessness;
• awareness of some of the causes and consequences of being homeless;
• knowledge and understanding on ways to respond to the issue of homelessness at an individual, societal and governmental level; and
• awareness of the support and help that statutory organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) provide.
