The Mixture that Makes Ulster

'The Mixture that Makes Ulster' aims to set in context the geographical and historical influences which have shaped how we speak today.

The resource comes in two parts. The pupil book gives children factual information describing how language and society changed as a result of major historical events and transformations across Europe, Britain and Ireland. The teachers’ resource booklet provides an outline for stimulating learning opportunities across the curriculum. The themes and activities included in both of these resources are designed to encourage pupils to explore, appreciate and celebrate the richness and diversity of language and culture in Northern Ireland and beyond.

Speaking at the launch Ruth Kennedy, CCEA Business Manager, Curriculum Assessment and Reporting, said:

'The Mixture That Makes Ulster is the latest resource in our ongoing programme to support schools in developing pupils' appreciation of our shared cultural heritage. This World Around Us resource is rich in its Geography and History content and hopefully this resource will help inspire teachers to use their imagination and creativity to develop the themes covered.'

The resource was piloted by Millburn Primary School, Coleraine and Principal Sharon Lamont said:

'This is a beautifully insightful, reflective resource which undoubtedly will help all children reflect on and understand their identity and sense of conjoined ownership of our wonderful province.'
