The CCEA GCE Further Mathematics specification aims to encourage deeper understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes. It assumes knowledge of Higher Tier GCSE Mathematics and GCE Mathematics.
Students explore pure mathematics, including further algebra and functions, complex numbers, matrices, vectors, further calculus, hyperbolic functions and differential equations. They also investigate applied mathematics, including mechanics, statistics, and discrete and decision mathematics.

Further Mathematics involves studying mathematics at a level beyond GCSE Higher Tier. It can act as a stepping stone that gives students a sound basis for studying GCE Mathematics, introducing some of the mechanics and statistics topics that appear at AS/A2 level.
