Amy Carmichael

Amy Carmichael (1867–1951) from Millisle, County Down was an Irish Christian missionary in India. In the tiny village of Dohnavur near the tip of South India she opened an orphanage and founded the Dohnavur Fellowship. This provided shelter and care for hundreds of children. She was like a mother to these children and provided the care that they needed for many years. In the 1930s, when she had a nasty fall and was unable to continue in the orphanage, she started writing about her faith, work and experiences in India. The story of her life and her writings still inspire people throughout the world today. Her great grandchildren have continued with the work of the Donhavur Fellowship to the present day.
