The Indian Community Centre, Belfast

Connections between India and Ireland have been evolving since the eighteenth century, but it wasn’t until after World War II that large numbers of people from India came to Northern Ireland. According to the most recent statistics, there are over 1000 members of the Indian community in Northern Ireland, making it the third largest minority ethnic group in Northern Ireland. The Indian Community Centre (ICC) was set up in 1981 in Belfast to develop deeper connections between the Indian community and Northern Ireland and other communities. Its aim is to promote greater mutual understanding and respect amongst minority ethnic and local communities, particularly in arts and cultural activities. This is organised through community development and outreach programmes.
