Mairead Corrigan and Betty Williams

In 1976 Mairead Corrigan and Betty Williams were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. They co-founded an organisation dedicated to finding a peaceful resolution to The Troubles in Northern Ireland. At first the organisation was known as Women for Peace. It later became the Peace People. Their organisation brought thousands of people onto the streets in the mid-1970s campaigning for an end to the violence of the Troubles.
