Portavogie Prawns

Portavogie is a small fishing port in County Down. It is the easternmost settlement in Ireland. It has become an important maritime centre because of its location and the rich supply of high quality seafood in the local waters. Every year in August, Portavogie celebrates its tradition of seafood products with the Seafood Festival, a popular event. A new harbour was developed in the 1980s and officially opened in 1985 by Princess Anne. This helped the growth of the seafood industry and seafood is now one of County Down’s most highly prized exports. Portavogie is most famous for its prawns and herrings especially the Portavogie prawn. You will find Portavogie prawns as a choice on many restaurant menus, locally and globally.
