Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy was born 1989 in Holywood, County Down. He is a professional golfer.

Rory was an amateur golfer until 2007 when, at the age of 17, he became a professional. He soon became very popular on the golfing scene and was former world number one in the official world golf ranking.

He has won four major championships: the US Open in 2011; the USPGA championships in 2012 and 2014; and the Open Championships in 2014.

In 2011, Rory became the youngest golfer to earn €10 million on the European Tour at the age of just 22. In 2012, he was the youngest golfer to reach $10 million on the PGA Tour.

He has also represented Europe, Great Britain and Ireland, and Ireland as an amateur and a professional.

Rory has also been awarded RTÉ Sports Person of the Year twice (in 2011 and 2014).
