Tourism in Northern Ireland

In recent decades, especially since the 1998 peace agreement, Northern Ireland has become extremely popular as a tourist destination. Our government has invested massively in making Northern Ireland attractive to visitors. There are many beautiful places across the province such as the Giant’s Causeway, Carrick-a-rede rope bridge, Mussenden Temple, Marble Arch caves and Carrickfergus castle. There are also first-class restaurants and great shopping to enjoy. More recently Northern Ireland’s role as a location for filming Game of Thrones has attracted even more visitors. The latest tourism statistics from the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA, 2019) show increases in overall visitor numbers and spend over the year. The COVID-19 restrictions are beginning to ease and Northern Ireland is looking forward to welcoming visitors again.
