The Lough Erne resort is a 5-star hotel and golf resort in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh. In June 2013, the eyes of the world were on this part of Northern Ireland as the resort hosted the thirty-ninth G8 summit. Eight world leaders, including US president Barack Obama, German chancellor Angela Merkel, Russian president Vladimir Putin and UK Prime minister David Cameron, travelled to Fermanagh for the biggest political gathering ever held in Northern Ireland. At this G8 summit world leaders discussed and negotiated tax and trade issues. At every summit, G8 countries make commitments on matters such as health, education, energy, security and climate change.
