Willie Drennan

Willie Drennan is a 65-year-old musician, storyteller and writer from County Antrim. He draws much of his material from the cultural traditions of his county. He grew up with the Ulster-Scots culture just a few miles outside Ballymena where there was a strong cultural connection with Scotland.

His work focuses on Ulster-Scots culture. He has produced and recorded albums and DVDs of his work. He wrote The Wee Book, a collection of poetry, short stories and songs that he has written and performed.

Drennan worked extensively across Europe and North America between 1976 and 1997 educating others about culture in Northern Ireland. Since his return he has continued to work to promote Ulster-Scots culture. His many achievements include producing recordings for the Ulster-Scots Folk Association, creating and developing an Ulster-Scots Youth and Schools programme, 1998–2009 and leading the Ulster-Scots Folk Orchestra and other folk bands between 2001 and 2009.
