About The Timeline
CCEA has produced an illustrated timeline celebrating Northern Ireland’s 100 greats over the last 100 years: people, places, and our diverse society, 1921–2021. The timeline aims to facilitate the broadest possible understanding of what makes Northern Ireland great and memorable. The target audience is Key Stage 2 although it may also be of interest to early Key Stage 3.
You can explore the timeline by topic: Cultural Diversity, Festivals, Food and Drink, Geography, History, Literature, Medicine, Politics or the Peace Process, Science/STEM/Invention, Sport and The Arts.
Each search generates a synopsis of the item, the relevant decade and links to the Northern Ireland Curriculum and relevant websites. A range of follow-up tasks and questions are provided to encourage further investigation and skills development. The timeline can be used in conjunction with the suite of 6 lessons, which are fully aligned with the NI Curriculum.
Links to CCEA Thematic Units
Use the timeline alongside the supplementary lessons and the CCEA Thematic Units to access a range of ideas and learning experiences focusing on Northern Ireland’s contribution to the global stage.
